STAND-ALONE PROGRAMMER FOR KINETIS

  • Sir,
    We are currently using MKV10Z32VLC7 controllers and we need a standalone programmer for production purpose.

    Now we have CYCLONE PRO and CYCLONE MAX, is this enough? otherwise, suggest a programmer.

    The cyclone max can be used to program the Kinetis device you wish to program. The cyclone pro does NOT support the ARM Kinetis device.

    1. Currently we have cyclone max but we can't able to work with kinetis MCUs. It says error 00007 we don't know where we have done wrong, so can you just send me simple program to work with that.

    2. Is there any possibility to exchange cyclone pro and cyclone max to get cyclone universal fx

    1) Instead of trying to debug the problem using standalone programming, first go to PROG for ARM (PROGACMP) software found in your cyclone max software package. Try using this software to figure out why you cannot connect.

    You should make sure to try both SWD communication protocol. JTAG will not work. Also, make sure you use the latest software and firmware for the cyclone max:

    We cannot download the program, again its saying error 0000007

    I am assuming you followed the steps to update to the latest software and firmware and attempted again using SWD protocol.

    You should be debugging using the PROG for ARM software. So I want to know the error you get in PROG, not in standalone programming.

    • It says "CANNOT COMMUNICATE THE TARGET PROCESSOR PLEASE CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS BETWEEN CABLE AND TARGET AND MAKE SURE TARGET POWER HAS ON", but we are sure that the target is ON and the  power on LED is glowing.

    The target and power may be on, but you need to check connections and check whether or not your board is good. You may want to start using an oscilloscope to monitor the TCK, TDI, TDO, and TMS lines to see whether you are seeing activity. Also quickly check VDD and RESET lines to make sure you are not seeing odd behavior like low voltage or constant toggling.

    When we connect cyclone max and board, cyclone max is ON, But the board is OFF. Board is getting 1.30V instead of 5V.

    You need to power up your board. The cyclone max is not going to provide power to your target.

    If you power up your board with 5V, what do you measure at VDD? Still 1.3V?

    What happens if you disconnect the cyclone max and measure VDD on the board? Does it go back up to 5V?

  • Still after power up the board, VDD only 1.3v

    when we remove the cyclone max it backs up to 5v

    Sounds like the cyclone may have a short. With just the cyclone, try to see if VDD and GND on the cyclone are shorted. You may have a damaged cyclone in which you may need to get it repaired/replaced.

    We checked VDD and GND, its not shorted and now we are getting 5v correctly after connecting to cyclone still we are getting error $00000007, any solution for this?

  • Greetings,

    Error $0007 is just a generic error indicating problems with communication to the target. You will need to check TDI, TDO, TCK, and RESET as well to see why you are getting this error. Also try lowering the debug shift frequency and add 200ms reset delay. What you are looking for are clean and fast rise and fall edges. Any capacitors or current-limiting resistors on these signals can cause issues with timing and reaching the correct voltage.
