GDB server unable to start a required server component

  • I got following error when trying to download an image to K64 device: 

    Error in services launch sequence
    There appears to be an issue with your network settings.
    The gdb server was unable to start a required server component.Please contact technical support.

    My environments:
    SDK - kinetis design studio
    Eclipse SDK
    Version: Luna SR2 (4.4.2)
    Build id: M20150204-1700

    GDB server - launch server locally

    OS: OpenSuSe Tumbleweed release

    Note: it worked before I installed this OpenSuSe Tumbleweed - the previous versions I have installed are openSuSe Leap 42.*.

    My question is:
    what does that mean by "an issue with your network settings", and how to fix it?

    Network in this scope does not mean your internet network, but the GDB network. If the GDB client requires access to a remote GDB server, then yes you will need to make sure the internet network settings are working. If you are setting up the GDB server locally, then internet connection is not important. But since you said this used to work, I doubt the issue is your internet connection.

    We do not support openSUSE, so it may be up to you to figure out what happened in the OS update that caused this issue. But I can try helping you in the right direction.

    We know the only change is upgrading of your OS. Not a change in hardware, firmware, connection settings, or software. When setting up GDB, there are ports that need to be accessed on both the client and server. Maybe the new OS added protection/firewall to your port settings to closed or protected.

    Another thing that can happen is file protection. Make sure all the files in your IDE are accessible so that GDB can run without problems.

    - Firewall is disabled (wide open in this case)
    - I am running as root in KDS. not sure if GDB will have permission issue - this used to work.

    other things I have noticed from the console output from kinetis-design-studio - see below - Not sure if this is the reason the GDB server failed - is there a way to manually test the server and client connection or only server ?

  • Greetings,

    There is a way to test client and server outside of the IDE. Could you go to Support page -> Support requests and create a ticket so I can give you the test I typically run.
