Freedom KE02Z40M - No Luck Updating Firmware
Linden G. Mar 21, 2016 at 06:22 PM (18:22 hours)
Staff: Zahar R.

  • I have a pair of KE02Z40M boards.

They appear to _always_ boot up in bootloader mode. Specifically:

Green LED blinks about 7 times quickly then pauses. Repeats every second.

Device appears as a removable storage device with volume label BOOTLOADER.

They do this whether or not I hold the RST button while plugging in the USB cable.

SDA_INFO.HTM shows me these installed versions:

    MicroBoot Kernel Ver 1.05
    Bootloader Vers 1.10
    Application Version is 0.00

I can drag and drop new firmware. I have tried these files - freshly downloaded from P&E Micro:

In both cases, the .SDA file shows up in the BOOTLOADER removable storage device. However, when I disconnect / re-connect the USB cable, the file is gone and I appear to be back in bootloader mode.

    What am I missing?

    • Using PC w Windows 10 as host . . .

  • Hi Linden,

There was a problem with earlier versions of P&E Bootloader (v110 and earlier) under Windows 8.1 and 10. The Windows 8.1 and 10 end up writing data to OpenSDA firmware, which prevents it from properly booting up.

In order to update to the latest Bootloader version, BOOTUPDATEAPP_Pemicro_v111.SDA application should be used. At the same time, the update can only take place on Windows XP or Windows 7 PC, due to the OS limitation.

For exact step by step instructions on the firmware update procedure, please visit Erich Styger's blog via the following link:

    Best Regards,

    • Thanks. Everything is working now.
