    What you need to work on the CPU12 is called a "pkg12z kit" it includes all the necessary software AND the USB Multi-Link.
    The 6-pin header that you mentioned probably provides the BDM signals for use with USB Multi-link.
    Click on the Products tab at the top of the page and then search for pkg12z.

    All of the technical information for your particular CPU12 chip should be available for free on line from Freescale.
