LPC844 Via Multilink - Can I use 6-pin 'BDM' vs Mini-10?

  • We are moving from 9S08 MCU to LPC844 on a product we've made for almost 10 yrs. To flash the older ones we use the 6-pin BDM Port-C on Multilink Universal. Our prototypes using the LPC844 we placed the tiny Mini-10 from Port-G and it works fine debugging, but the connector is far too small to easily flash-and-disconnect when we move to production with a Cyclone. Question: Since we only use pins 2, 4 and 10 (as well as + and gnd - so 5 in total) can we use Port-C BDM, so we can use the same standard connector and ribbon as on our older products? If so, which pins for the SWDIO and SWDCLK? The power, gnd and reset seem easy. Will this work? Cheers!

  • Greetings,

Quick answer is no, BDM and JTAG protocols are completely different.

What you could do is check port H. This is the bigger 20-pin connector that also can handle JTAG/SWD connections for ARM. Perfect time to check your cyclone's user manual found in your cyclone software install directory to read up chapter 3 on all the different connectors. If you are reading the latest manual chapter is where you need to go.
