Multilink FX not connecting to MPC565

  • Is there a way to test why no communication with target? I have other tools, they connect read / write fine. Multilink does not. I checked the connection and tried different speeds. Using PROGPPC, Multilink recognized by PC, blue and yellow lights on.

    I'm out of ideas.

    Thank you.

  • Andy,

I recommend you connect the debug signals to an oscilloscope and look at the waveforms that are generated. You should also verify the voltage levels.

On your oscilloscope look for the following startup sequence for this microcontroller:

    a. DSCK is driven high and DSI is driven low (to processor).
    b. Delay ~1ms.
    c. HRESET or SRESET is driven low (usually this will be HReset).
    d. Delay ~20ms.
    e. HRESET is released (tri-state, should be pulled up on target).
    f. Shifting activity appears on DSCLK, DSI and DSO. (PC software communicating with target to determine if debug mode
    was successfully entered).

A few other things to check:
    1. Test the slowing debug shift speed.
    2. Reduce the length of your ribbon cables and use shielded cables.
    3. Do you have any in series passive components (resistors, capacitors, etc) on DSI or DSO?
    4. Do you have any active IC components connected to the reset pin?
