FAQ ID # 69

Question
When using the debugger for high-level, C language debugging, the debugger is not displaying the correct value for variables. What is the cause?

Answer
When configuring a C compiler to produce a debugging file format, such as ELF/DWARF2/DWARF3/DWARF4, turn off compiler optimization. Sometimes, optimization will produce unexpected results in the debugging file.
