"ERR: Can not enter background mode"
Stephen N. Dec 6, 2017 at 06:04 PM (18:04 hours)
Staff: Johnny N.

  • I have been using my Multilink Universal FX for two different projects
    1) NXP/Freescale DSC 56F8367 in Codewarrior 10.7
    2) NXP/Freescale K64 in MCUXpresso 10.1

    In the past, when I switched between projects/processors the Multilink would always successfully re-flash itself for the new target type. However today it just stopped working, for both target types.

    This is the end of the log:

    INF: P&E Interface detected - Flash Version 9.40
    ERR: Can not enter background mode.
    INF: Unable to initialize PEDebug.
    GDI: => DI_ERR_NONFATAL
    GDI: The Debugger can not connect to the P&E device
    GDI: DiGdiClose()
    GDI: => DI_OK

    I installed the new 12.7 drivers, but same problem occurs. Please advise.

    Comments

  • To clarify: the re-flashing of the P&E firmware always reports that it is successful (the window turns green). The failure occurs after the re-flashing of the Multilink (if needed). The failure occurs when the IDE debugger attempts to attach to the Multilink.
