KL25z bootloader update not working.

  • Hi, I'm attempting to use my FDRM KL25z with MCUxpresso in Arch Linux. In order to get my device to recognize, I'm attempting to update the bootloader. Before attempting this, the board would visually power on when pluged in with the openSDA port. Now, it only responds when put into the bootloader mode. Opening SDA_INFO.htm gives me this:

    Board Name is: FRDM-KL25Z
    MicroBoot Kernel Version is: 1.05
    Bootloader Version is: 1.09
    Application Version is: 0.00
    DUID is: ECC33938-8E5A81C9-3732D811-B76DE678
    EUID is: E661A239-21008743-1831FA16-957668D6
    TUID is: 74823938-473281B5-374A9809-B85CE678
    TOA is: 86B6E505-F9EBF619-41E6B687-4590B8B7
    TOA2 is: 86B6E505-35A6E052-CDE430D7-E0139D98
    SUID is: 86B6E505-6C47A61D-37239804-8003EC65

My attempt to update goes as follows:
I downloaded the newest firmware package, unzipped it, and found the .sda file,
    MSD-DEBUG-FRDM-KL25Z_Pemicro_v118.SDA

I drag and drop it into the bootloader root directory and then unplug, and plug the device back in. The device is not recognized after this.
Before attempting the update, I was able to run lsusb and the device could be seen by my machine. It now longer is visible with this method. I have access to an Ubuntu 16.04 machine, Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows xp if any of these would give me better luck with installing. Thanks for the help!

  • Hi Matt,

From your SDA_INFO.HTM it looks like you are using a board with Bootloader that does not support Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 IDEs.

Hence, you will need to use Windows XP PC to update Bootloader by following the steps outlined in Erich Styger's blog post:

    https://mcuoneclipse.com/2014/11/01/illustrated-step-by-step-instructions-updating-the-freescale-freedom-board-firmware/

Once the Bootloader is updated to v1.11, please start up the board in Bootloader mode and drag and drop MSD-DEBUG-FRDM-KL25Z_Pemicro_v118.SDA application into the Bootloader mass storage device.

After this update you should have no problem using your OpenSDA board on Windows 8.x, Windows 10 and Linux PCs.

    Best Regards,
    Zahar
