Multilink reset before programming

  • I am using the U-Multilink and the command line cproghcs08.exe to program mc9s08pa. When the chip is new, I get the message "the target MCU is not responding. Please turn MCU power off, turn MCU power on..."

Is there a way to avoid power cycle the MCU, could we use reset line, any command?

Do I need U-Multilink FX for that?

  • Greetings,

The reason why that message shows up is because you must use power-on-reset (POR) to be able to enter background debug mode (BDM). Since the multilink universal cannot provide or control power, you are forced to manually power cycle the chip/board.

If you had the multilink universal FX or any of the cyclones, then it has the ability to POR the board for you to enter BDM.

There is nothing in commandline you can do to fix this. This is a hardware-related problem.
