Multilink FX / Shadow0 programming on M5674F

  • Hi,

I need to make some changes on the shadow0 block in a system. I read the shadow0 with Multilink FX and PROGPPCNEXUS.. I edited the file and I'm ready to flash it back. I didn't modified the censorword either the serial password. BOOTCFG pins config are unknown as its not our system.

Question is, do I just need to flash back the 16k file back or I need to do
some more step to avoid lock up.

  • Greetings,

The lock up you can face is usually because customers erase and program the shadow block without knowing that there are security bytes you need to program. That leaves the password field as all 0xFF and since that is an illegal password the moment you power cycle the board the chip is bricked.

If you are not making any changes to the security bits, like the password or boot configurations, then the only thing that can cause your chip to lock up is if you accidentally erased the chip and forgot to program back to the shadow block. So you should erase and program in one sitting, like it is an atomic operation, and never leave the shadow block in an erased state.

  • Greetings,

Do you have any further questions or concerns about shadow block?
