How to power up the Cyclone_ST or Cyclone Max Programmer correctly?

  • Hi. In practice, we use Cyclone_ST programer to program ST SPC56xx DSP,if we always power on the programmer,when we use usb port to program remotely and change the programmed electronic board, the usb driver may often work abnormally , in some time, the image manager cannot find the usb port, so we have to stop the program, unless we reset the programmer manually or re-power-on the programmer.
    Then ,how should we use the Cylone programmer correctly? especially, when we must use them to program many boards.
    Should we power on the programmer always, or should we re-power-on the programmer for every electronic-board?
    If we re-power-on the programmer too frequently, the programmer would be destroyed for shock which emerge in power on, now one programmer has been damaged and the supplier in China told us that the power part of the programmer has been damaged.
    Expect your reply in soon. Thanks.

  • Greetings,

    1) What do you mean you are programming remotely using USB port? Are you VPN to a computer that has the cyclone attached? What software are you using to program?

    2) When a cyclone cannot be found it is usually because the cyclone is busy. Did you check to see if it is being used in a different software?

    You should not have to re-power the cyclone after every program session. You can have it connected forever and it should never have troubles. Check to see if the power connector is loose. Wiggle it and see if the cyclone powers off and on. Also, test the power supply brick. Try a different power supply and see if the cyclone is left on consistently.

    • 1) Programing remotely what I mean is programing controlled by software via USB port, rather than manually program by pushing the start button. The software use API functions to program.

      2)there is no another program using the usb port, just seem like the driver lost control of usb port. When we use image manager software to search the usb port, there is nothing in the combo list.

  • Greetings,

    When the cyclone disappears, if you go to device manager do you still see the Cyclone under Jungo?

    You should see:

    Jungo -> WinDriver
    Jungo -> Cyclone/Tracelink

    If the cyclone is not there anymore, then the cyclone has completely dropped off and the drivers is not necessarily the problem. It could be hardware failure of the cyclone. If the cyclone is still there, then the cyclone is not the problem.

    Do you have other cyclones? Do you see similar problems with other cyclones?

  • Greetings,

    Any update on this?

  • Due to the programmer being used in product line, so we cannot test what you told us. If we are allowed to test it, we will contact with you.
