Could PE Micro Max Programmer read image from Chip such as SPC56xx?

Staff: Takao Y.

  • Our customer required us of using PE Programmer to write & read image file to/from mcu chip such as SPC56xx, is there function in the programmer, or is there a production having such function?
    Best Regards.

  • Greetings,

There is a way to read the contents of your SPC56xx device using P&E hardware and software. You will need a P&E hardware and the PROG software from us.

You could either purchase the multilink hardware and PROG software, OR get a P&E cyclone and the PROG is already included into the price.

Once you have this setup, you simply connect to the chip and use a command called "upload module" and it will spit out a s-record file of the flash contents of the chip.

Let me know if you have questions related to hardware selection.

  • Actually, we had bought PEMicro Cyclone Max and Cyclone_ST programmer, but we used them to program the chip, but when customer want to use them to read image files from chips, we have to turn to your help.Would you like to give us some suggestion?
    Best Regards!

  • Greetings,

If you already have the cyclone max, then use the PROG for PPCNEXUS software found in the cyclone max software and connect to your chip. You need to know which algorithm to load, which is based on the type of SPC56xx device you have and there could be different algorithms depending on which types of flash memory you want to read like CFLASH versus DFLASH.

  • Thanks for your support, but from P&E micro agency company said, we are told it might be different between what is read back and what is written into. Is it true, if true, would you like to explain to me why?

  • Additional, Could P&E Micro Cyclone Max read code flash and data flash from Chip named 'MPC5604'? we want to get a clear confirmation from you. And how could we use the P&E Micro Cyclone Max device to debug program in circuit?

  • Greetings,

Cyclone max and all of our hardware can read the flash contents of the chip by using the PROG software that I mentioned earlier. You can find it in the cyclone max software. Use the command Upload module to do this and it will save the contents in s-record format.

There are rare occasions that what you wrote into the chip may differ from what gets read out. This can be due to a random bit flipping. This is why it is important that after you program you can then call verify CRC to check the contents that was just written.

A lot of these questions you have can be answered by reading the cyclone max manual and the forums. Please check these resources.
