USB Multilink Universal works very unreliable with S12ZVM

  • Hello,
We have bought two new USB multilink Universal from Mouser Electronics, Rev. C, Blue.
Flashing with Codewarrior is very unreliable (Connection to uC is nearly always lost). FreeMaster doesn't work at all.
We have some Multilink Universal Rev. C, Blue in hause and they work OK (exactly under the same conditions)
Firmware was updated with Firmware Update Utility 5.48 up to Version 0940, but it didn't improve the Situation.

Could you please help to solve this Problem?

    Best Regards
    Igor Pepelyaev

  • Greetings,

You should take a look at your schematic and check your BKGD (pin 1), RESET (pin 4), and VDD (pin 6) lines. Get a voltmeter and measure the voltages of these lines when you power up your board. Do not have any P&E hardware or any other hardware connected to these lines when measuring. GND is pin 2.

If all the voltages are not the same, then that is your problem. Most problems with unreliable is that the voltages are sitting closer to 4V instead of 5V for the 5V chips. You probably have something like a current-limiting resistor or a capacitor that is giving an RC like behavior.

  • Voltage OK.
After Firmware update to the neuest one (0959) everything works correctly.
The old CD Firmware 0940 doesn't work.
    Anyway thanks for supporting:)
