CycloneMax support flash memory reprogramming without erase EEPROM

Staff: Takao Y.

  • MCU device : Freescale MKE02Z32, 32K flash with 256 bytes EEPROM.

The end product is needed firmware upgrade. But it has been pre-programmed with some calibration data in the eeprom which cannot be erased.

Question: Can the CycloneMax programming image creation procedure supports just the flash memory mass erase and then reprogrammed with application code, but leave the eeprom without erase?

  • Greetings,

Yes it can. It is a feature called preserve range and we have a blog post about this here:

It involves changing the algorithm. I would advise making a copy of the original algorithm and changing the copied version. That way when you are done preserving data you can switch back to the original algorithm.

  • Greetings,

Do you have any questions or concerns? Did the preserve range work?

  • Dear Takao,

Thanks for your advice. Advised my customer to test it.
