USB Multilink to TRK-USB_MPC5604B compatibility and device comparison

  • Dear Sirs,

We intend to buy either USB Multilink Universal, USB Multilink Universal - FX or USB Qorivva Multilink together and TRK-USB_MPC5604B development board to be used before our HW is built.

Is USB Qorivva Multilink compatible to that board? If so, what debug functionality is possible with Nexus but not in JTAG (using USB Multilink Universal, USB Multilink Universal - FX)?

How much faster is USB Multilink Universal - FX compared to USB Multilink Universal?

Do you know any other development board than TRK-USB_MPC5604B that might be an alternative in case Qorivva Multilink can not be used with it and there are many advantages using Qorivva Multilink?

    Best regards,

    Dan Bremberg

  • Greetings,

The great things about the TRK boards is that you do not need an external pod to program and debug your board. That USB port next to the "PEMicro" logo is the OSBDM port. Go to to learn more about OSBDM.

OSBDM, however, is very slow but it can provide power to your board and it is very convenient.

The main purpose of the USB Multilink Universal and USB Multilink Universal FX is that they both support multiple architectures. If this is important to you, then get these multilinks. The Qorivva multilink will work with your board, but obviously only supports the Qorivva architecture.

To compare speeds, the slowest multilink is the Multilink Universal. The next fastest is the Qorivva Multilink. Our fastest will always be the Universal FX. Go to this website if you want stats on the speed between the regular universal vs the FX version:

All of our hardware and software tools support JTAG. Our tools do not support the extra capabilities like trace and trigger of the NEXUS port. But simple commands like programming, step, run, and breakpoints in debugging will all work whether that is JTAG or NEXUS. If you plan on using the NEXUS port but want to use our hardware tools, you will need the BERG14-MICTOR38 adapter:

Hopefully I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any more.
