  • Hi all,

I am using a freescale demoboard (DEMO9S08DZ60) with a on board P&E flasher. At the flasher I connected a cable for the 6pin BDM connector. With a S08DN60 this works. But now I am trying to program the S08SF4 without success.

Reset pin at BDM and BKGD pin shows activity when pressing connect button.

Does anybody know rootcause? Is there any update at the flashing tool necessary?

    Thank you!

  • Hi carlson100,

It's strange that you can program one device but not another. You want to be careful with using the demoboard as a programmer since the signals are shared with the 9S08DZ60 processor as well as your external board. I know that the demoboards are not designed to be used in this fashion.

One thing to check is to make sure you have pull-up resistors on both BKGD and RESET.

If you continue to have issues, you may want to try using a USB-ML-12 interface to communicate with the S08SF4:

    Thanks Edison.

The internal 9S08DZ60 is disconnected. That should not be a problem. But in general it should be possible to program S08SF4 devices, right?

The Reset has a 10k Ohm to VCC and a 6.8nF cap to GND. Are these values ok?

The BKGD does not have any pull up. I thought this is realized by the tool. But when I take look with the scope on that line, the signal level seems to be ok ...?!?!? I will try with 10k Ohm pull up.

    Thanks again, carlson100

    Hello Carlson,

    Are you using Codewarrior?
Version 6.3 and above are deliberately hobbled to stop you from doing this.
It won't let you use your demoboard to communicate with anything other than the device the board is manufactured for
