Blue Led indicator blinking with Multilink Universal after FW Update Error: 'Error during blank check'

  • Hi,

I have a Multilink Universal, which was working fine until yesterday.

Not sure if this is related, but I installed a new version of the PE Plugin for S32DS. After this, when trying to debug a target, a firmware update was initiated by S32DS. This was expected, as previously I was using an older version of S32DS for another target.

However, during the FW update process an error occurred. I don't remember the initial error, but now it says: “Error during blank check”.

This leads to the following situation:
When connecting the Multilink only to the PC via USB, the Blue LED is blinking.
When also connecting a target, also the Yellow LED is blinking.

When starting a FW update via S32DS or via PEFirmwareConfig.exe, the above error occurs.
From time to time S32DS also reports that the Multilink is in Bootloader Mode.

The device is recognized in S32DS/PEFirmwareConfig sometimes as "Rev D" and sometimes as "Rev ?".

It also seem to disappear and re-appear in the Windows Device Manager or Linux 'lsusb'.

I tried different versions of S32DS, PEFirmwareConfig.exe, and different PCs.

Is there a chance to recover from this error?

    Best Regards,
    Sebastian

  • Hi Sebastian,

Is the MultiLink disappearing and reappearing from Windows' device manager without you doing anything?

Does this issue occur on just your computer or does it still happen when connected to other computers?

    -Gilbert Y.

    • Hi Gilbert,

      this occurs without doing anything.

I tested this on three Computers (two Windows, one Linux) and all have this problem.

Without doing anything it looks like this on Linux:

Linux was just for testing. The initial Firmware Update leading to the error was done on Windows (where previously the Multilink and FW Update were working fine.)

      Best Regards,
      Sebastian

      • For your Windows machine, could you download the "driver_test" application from the following page and check if your drivers were installed properly?

        https://www.pemicro.com/support/download_processor.cfm?type=5

If your driver installation looks correct, you can try deleting the "USB MultiLink 2.0" device from your Device Manager and see if it properly sets up the next time that you plug it in.

        • driver_test:

          (detected) C:\WINDOWS\sysnative\drivers\pemicrowindrvr.sys (Version 12.03)
          (detected) C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\peusb32bin64os.dll (Version 12.03)
          (detected) C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\peusb64bin64os.dll (Version 12.03)
          (detected) C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\peusbmgr2.dll (Version 6.123)
          (detected) C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\peusbmgr264.dll (Version 6.123)
          (detected) C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\libusb0.dll (Version 1.02)
          (detected) C:\WINDOWS\sysnative\drivers\libusb0.sys (Version 1.02)

          No errors were detected.

After removing the device from Device Manager, the error still occurs.

          • It might be easier for us to take a look at this issue in our office with our own tests. If you are able to send your MultiLink to our office, I can create an RMA for you and we can proceed with our evaluation.

            • Sure, please do so and I will send the device to you.

              • I have opened up the RMA for you and have sent you instructions within that support ticket. I will be replying primarily through that RMA going forward.
