usb multilink interface

  • hello  I have been using 2 multilink interfaces (PE1717 C.1) for several months  now  in  production and development  but last week one of them  decided to give me a "xmas gift" and stopped working (not programming)
    I checked the obvious:
    the 2 x 3v Zener are ok
    the c12 tant cap is ok

    but the u3 8pin chip gets hot when I supply 3 volts from the programming pins side
    Can you please let me know the name of this device so i can change it
    and or if you think that it could be something else.

      Do you have a USB-ML-12(E) Rev C? This is the programmer with the red/maroon color case.

  • YES  I DO AND THE PCB  MARKINGS ARE PE1717  C.1

    • Ferthermore the marking on the 8 pin chip is "C2606Z

      • Hi Gianni,

        The part number you're looking for is "TI: SN74LVC2G126DCTR or TI: SN74LVC2G126DCTRE4"

        Both are acceptable part numbers for U3. I've posted the Digikey link as well for the component.

    unfortunately it is not the SN74LVC2G126DCTR. We managed to get some from the local ti agent and replacing the device did not help.

    I have now removed from the PCB:
    - T1 & T4 zener diodes,
    - U5 (DG411),
    - U3(SN74LVC2G126DCTR)
    - R15
    - C12

    but i still measure a SHORT between the 3V PIN (ON J2) and ground

    IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW THE TRACKS AS IT IS A MULTILAYER PCB

    Could it be any of the U6,U7,U8,U9,U10,U11

    I have replacements for only U7,8,11 but not for U6,9,10 as i dont know what they are

    please help with this my last attempt

    IT IS REALLY A MYSTERY WHY IT PACKED UP AFTER USING IT FOR MONTHS

    • Gianni,

      Please try removing U6, U9, U10. Let me know if this fixes the short.

    yes removing u6,9,10 made a difference.

    U9 made a big difference ,now I can measure no impedance between 3v and gnd

    My problem now is to source those devices. what is the part no?

      The part number for u6,u9,10 is TI SN74LVC1G66DBVRG4.

    happy new year!

    we have received the SN74LVC1G66DCKR instead of SN74LVC1G66DBVRG4.
    but we managed to solder them onto the pcb anyway.

    unfortunately , last year while looking for the problem we removed T3 and T5 which in the process got damaged and we now need to replace
    what are they?

    would it at all be possible to have a schematic of the unit so that we can repair in the future without bothering you all the time

    Mean while "in the production department " I found another USB-ML-12(E) unit that got damaged in the past and that now i can possibly repair

    • Hi Gianni,

      The schematic is proprietary and no one is allowed to release it.

      T3 and T5 are just TVS diodes and are not required for the device to function. They are for transient protection.

    great news.. i got the one to work !!!

    on the second one that i am trying to fix i need to know the part numbers of :
    U13 and T2 as these were cannibalized.

    The very worrying fact is that now 3 out of 3 got damaged including the one sold to us by the distributor of Freescale devices in SA which we can see had been repaired before on the same components
