Cyclone PRO don't Store Freescale DSC files, ERROR 6 during script

Staff: Juan S.

  • When I try to store .S files Image to cyclone using MCF8323 Freescale DSC, Cyclone MAX do "ERROR 6 during script" . All .S19 files that I generate using COdewarrior for MCF83XX and MCF84XXX Fresscale DSC family is impossible to store into cyclone max.

Below my S19 file for example:

  • Greetings,

MC56F8323 has the following memory map for flash based on our algorithms:

    $00000000-$0003FFFF P-Flash (Program Memory)
    $00020000-$00020FFF Boot (Program Memory)
    $01001000-$01001FFF D-Flash (Data Memory)

Your S19 file has the following memory coverage:
    Data: 00000000 - 00000489
    00020000 - 00020097
    02000001 - 0200009C
    02001000 - 02001007

Looks like you have data in P-Flash and Boot, but your D-flash is what is causing the error you are seeing. As you may know, the Data Memory space can be mapped based on the FM_Base register. You will have to move your DFlash data into the address space we have in our algorithm and you will not have this error. You should be able to make changes in your linker file to remap it to this new address.

    • Its very strange, because we are using the original tool of Freescale.

We're using Code Warrior with default configurations to generate S19 file.

  • Greetings,

Let me talk with our DSC expert on Monday about this issue. He might have insight to why this is happening.

  • Hi Thiago,

Could you please try using the .elf file instead?

    • Yes,

Using .elf files works, but it's inconvenient for us. The .elf files have large size because the libraries linked for debug.

    • Did you generate a S19 file for MCF83XX and test? Did work?

    • Our standard tool don't generate elf files too. We use Code Warrior 8.3 and this version only generate S19 files. Could you confirm and fix the problem?

      • Greetings,

Very soon we will be releasing a fix to this problem. It will be a newer version of PROG DSC. If you need a solution now, please create a support request ticket and we can send you a beta version of the software with the fix. Otherwise, you can wait until we get a release version of the software and download it for free on our PROG DSC page:
        http://www.pemicro.com/products/product_viewDetails.cfm?product_id=15320158

I project a release date of mid-next week. If you can wait that long, then just wait until I respond back to this forum post with the good news.

        • And about Cyclone MAX? Will you correct Cyclone MAX Image Utility software too? We don't use PROG DSC, only Cyclone MAX Image Utility.

          Thanks, we'll wait your team.

        • Any news of this bug fix?

Does the software avaliable to download?

          • Greetings,

I have been asking the development team about this software and they have been delayed on this release. I will let you know if there are any update on this. I am deeply sorry for the delay.

  • Ok Thanks. And about the Cyclone Image Creation Utility when this problem occours too?

  • Greetings,

New Cyclone Max software and firmware is being released end of this month. You will have to wait a bit longer. There was a bug we found during testing that needs to be addressed.
