Question
I am trying to debug a MC9S08 target without success. When I plug the BDM Multilink into the target, the voltage drops from 3.0V to 0.7V. I have made sure I am plugging the 6-pin ribbon in properly. What is going on?

Answer
Check the regulator on the target board to make sure it can supply enough current to the BDM Multilink. I have seen some HCS08 boards which only have a 40mA regulator. The BDM Multilink, at 3.0v, will require around 150mA of current. If this is the case, you have several options :

(1) Use an external center negative 5V power supply (see part #BDMMULTI-PS) to power the BDM Multilink so it does not draw significant target current.

(2) Use a Cyclone Pro or a USB-ML-12 instead.
