Question
I am getting an EPrivilege Exception when running P&E software. What is the problem?

Answer
When the software was installed, the account installing the software did not have administrator priviledge. This prevents the installer from modifying the registry in order to load the P&E drivers on reboot. Uninstall the software and re-install it as an administrator. The software does not need administrator privilege to run. A driver install file is attached to install just the drivers.

On Windows XP, the easy way to find out if this is the problem is to see if the drivers are running. Do the following: (1) Open the Control Panel (2) Double click the System icon (3) Select the Hardware tab (4) Click the device manager button (5) In the device manager main menu, make sure the "Show Hidden Devices" option is checked in the view menu. (6) Click the + icon on the "Non Plug and Play" category to see all the drivers. The following drivers should be shown:

GIVEIO BDM Access Driver
P&E BDM Cable Driver II (May be listed as VICHW11)
P&E Microcomputer System PCI Driver

(7) All three drivers, when double clicked upon, should indicate they are running properly.

P&E Hardware Interface Drivers Version 9 (Windows 98/ME) - Installs P&E drivers to allow P&E applications to communicate with P&E hardware via the parallel port, PCI bus, Ethernet, Serial, and USB. This does not include the application level support which comes with the different products. This install will also work for Windows 2000/XP, but for these operating systems you should download v10 instead.
